Springfield is a community that prides itself on active and healthy living. It is not by accident that Springfield is home to over 3 miles of paved trail, beautiful parks, a swimming pool, a golf course, a disc golf, multiple basketball courts, tennis courts, a campground, top notch baseball and softball fields, and much more. Vibrant user groups and service organizations help maintain and keep these facilities in tip top shape.
Since 2008 the Community Wellness Committee, spearheaded by the Mayo Health Systems facility in Springfield and comprised of representatives from a variety of sectors of the community, has promoted and sponsored a variety of activities and events to promote a healthy lifestyle. Some of these events include community wellness challenges in January and June of each year, community walks on Monday evenings during the warm weather events, and sponsoring speakers and programs on a variety of health and wellness topics.
In addition, Brown County has been awarded a Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) Grant to bring healthy living to the next level. Brown/Nicollet County Public Health has worked with the Springfield Active Living Committee made up of up of a diverse representation of community members with the help of the Region Nine Development Commission to assemble an Active Living Plan.
